Nominations are made by adults who have solid knowledge of the nominee and his or her work, but who are not related to the nominee. This could include teachers, librarians, civic or religious leaders, among others.

The Barron Prize relies on thoughtful adults to identify and nominate children from the diverse communities in which they live. The Prize accepts nominations on an annual basis and distributes $2,500 awards every fall. To nominate a young person, the adult nominator must submit a fully-completed nomination packet and references form (received in the Prize office by April 30).

CONTENTS OF THE NOMINATION PACKET ARE CONSIDERED PUBLIC INFORMATION ONCE PROVIDED TO THE GLORIA BARRON PRIZE FOR YOUNG HEROES AND SHOULD NOT INCLUDE PRIVATE OR PRIVILEGED INFORMATION. ALL MATERIALS MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE NOMINATION PACKET AT THE TIME OF SUBMISSION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE AWARD. IF ALL MATERIALS ARE NOT PRESENT, THE PACKET WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED. NOMINATION MATERIALS WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
